I came to Second Wind through something of a side door. I am not a transplant recipient, nor have I been the support person for someone who is. I was led to this organization by the power of prayer - something anybody who has been through the transplant experience knows a lot about.

A little over 4 years ago, I received a prayer request for someone awaiting a lung transplant in St. Louis and their support person. I'm a bit slow sometimes, and it took a while for it to sink in that I WAS IN ST. LOUIS TOO! When I realized that perhaps I could do more than pray for them - maybe reach out to someone far from home and make their stay here more comfortable - little did I know what would await me! Thanks to that first contact, I have made friends with and shared the transplant experience with people from all over the country and have received a hundred times more than I have given. I have been witness to miracles!

I consider it an honor to be included as part of this organization, even if it is as a "wannabe." (One of my favorite fellow members once introduced me by saying, "She doesn't have lungs or anything" - I can't help it that my lungs are the original equipment!) And I give thanks above for patiently leading me to answer the call of the little prayer request that now seems so many miracles ago.

In my spare time, I work at Christian Hospital in North St. Louis County. I am also active in the life of my church, 2 grown daughters, 3 beautiful grandchildren and 2 grand dogs.
